Exercise is an essential element of good health. We all need physical activity every day – even when we are not at school or have to work from home.
Martial arts training provides the kind of intense activity that we all need to feel good about ourselves. You can stay fit and toned without needing to go to a gym.
Making fitness a priority improves overall health, reducing your everyone’s chance of suffering from common health problems such as obesity and diabetes.
Structure Helps to Promote Normalcy
We all need normalcy in the difficult times. Kids don’t have the ability to structure their own lives. They need adults to do it for them – As adults we need it too and sometimes even the most involved parents need a break also.
Our Virtual and outdoor martial arts training is a scheduled activity that provides all with the structure and instruction we need. It can be a great supplement to home schooling – or as a stress reliever for adults.
Physical Activity Promotes Good Mental Health
In stressful times, it’s important to find ways to manage anxiety – and that’s true for kids as well as for adults.
There’s plenty of evidence that regular exercise is an essential component of good mental health. People who exercise are less likely to experience intense stress – and they’ll be better equipped to stay on an even keel emotionally.
Martial arts classes focus on the mind-body connection, something that can help us feel grounded mentally and emotionally.
THE IMPORTANCE OF DISCIPLINE
Everyone needs goals. Without them, we may struggle in school and at home and at work. Behavioral problems caused by a lack of discipline can make kids feel frustrated. Adults can lose drive without direction and goals.
Any type of structured exercise requires discipline. Attending a class – even a virtual one – involves making a time commitment and sticking to it.
Martial arts offers many of the same disciplinary benefits as in-person classes. We learn, get tested, and improve with guidance from our experienced instructors.
I’m in the high risk group for Covid19 and when the pandemic hit I thought it would be the end of my training, but the team at MPMAC quickly put together an online program and it works well for me. The world has changed and we learn to work with the tools and skills available to us.
Thank you for providing outdoor and online Zoom training for our martial arts training. It has been invaluable to continue training online while getting personal feedback for each student in the class. And having the outdoor training has taken it to the next level. We are blessed with the opportunity to have such dedicated Senseis and instructors who are devoted in developing both our mental and physical martial arts practice. It has helped me stay centered and strengthened my role as a father, spouse, and team leader throughout the COVID pandemic.
I cannot say enough good things about our experience with Newbury Park Martial Arts Center's virtual classes! The teachers are so special, it's incredible how much they connect with the students even through a screen. My 5-year-old feels like he knows his instructors, and feels comfortable with them even though they've only met twice in person. He loves attending class on Zoom and I would recommend this program to anyone looking for a way to get their child focused on a very positive set of skills while staying home!
Outdoor and Virtual Classes are happening now
Virtual martial arts classes offer most of the same training that kids get in person, but there are some elements that change out of necessity. For example, students can’t spar with one another in a virtual class.
They’ll need comfortable, loose clothing. If they already have a uniform from a regular class, they can wear that, but shorts and a tee-shirt will work just as well. It may be helpful to put a mat down to offer a bit of protection.
Yes, although it’s a good idea to have somebody supervising your kids while they take the class. Our instructors are experienced and skilled, and our virtual curriculum is designed to be easy to follow and to emphasize safety.
Yes, they’ll work hard during class. We’ll also encourage kids to practice between classes to improve their skills. Even on days when they don’t have a class, they can hit the mat.
Yes, we still allow for testing. It’s important for kids to feel that they’re making progress and they can do that at home with help from our instructors.
