The opportunity to study To-Shin Do is one of life’s amazing coincidences. The WQS Dojo, which is the only To-Shin Do school in California just happens to be nestled here in Thousand Oaks. Over the past years of study, this art has opened up new understandings of body movement and insights on daily interactions. Each week is a new point of internal reflection coupled with the set course-work and challenges of our instructors. The outcome for myself is a new perspective on the world and the forces of human interaction. As I frequently work outside in all parts of Los Angeles and New York City, the lessons taught here come into frequent use- mentally and prepared physically. It’s a great journey- enjoy.

Wow! What an awesome facility & we love the flexibility of the programs. This is a family friendly operation. We were looking for a martial arts program for our 12yr old grandson. The minute we walked into the Newbury Park Center we were impressed by the organized layout & the attention given to our grandson. The staff explained the types of training available emphasizing that school, sports participation & family activities were an important part of their philosophy of focusing on total development of a students potential. If you are looking for a well run, clean facility with instructors who will provide an individual lesson plan for your family member this is the place. Highly recommend this center.

NPMAC is an amazing place where both women and men, young and old, are instructed in both mental and physical skills to help them be successful. Their specialty is teaching someone with not much size or strength to defend themselves. My two tween girls have learned to defend themselves using these techniques. One night they even flipped a grown man onto the mat, much to their surprise and his. For leadership skills, each month a different aspect is focused on.  They learn how to create the mental discipline to control their emotions and set goals. They learn how to be respectful, productive leaders in society. I highly recommend NPMAC for everyone, especially for ladies and girls. We all need these skills. Two weeks ago, I enrolled Nicholas and Nathan in a martial arts class that I think is amazing. Knowing how to respond to bullies is part of the learning curriculum. So far, in EVERY class, the boys have had to practice what they would do if someone bullied them. What I love, is that the teachers absolutely do not want them to engage in a fight. The emphasis is using words. The teachers will pretend to be the bullies in the class, and the kids are taught to put their hands up as a shield and yell with a strong voice, “STOP IT! BACK OFF!” once they feel threatened. But, they are taught ways to break out if someone grabs their shirt, etc. And, when they do use self-defense to break out, the teachers remind them, “Back away from the trouble!” Last week, half the class had to be “bullies”, and the other half huddled with the teacher to be “prepped.” The “bullies” walked up to their partner and said something not nice, and the other kids were prepared to say something. Everyone ended up laughing. I truly feel lucky to have found this program. They even had a game where they had to learn to introduce themselves to someone new. Is it a martial arts class, or a social skills class? I feel like it’s both. Not only are they learning self-defense, but they are having so much fun in the class and making new friends. What really put this program over the top for me, was their student creed, which they recite as a class, like the Pledge of Allegiance. “I believe in myself. I am confident. I can accomplish my goals. I believe in what I study. I am disciplined. I am ready to learn and advance....
